Does God Exist?

"Does God Exist?" -- that was the title of the Bible study I attended tonight. As I considered the question, I started to piece together the reasons for why I believe God exists. This may not be enough for everyone, but they're my reasons for believing. 1. Every action must have a cause. It is becoming widely accepted that there is evidence that the universe had a beginning. Before that, it was assumed that the universe always existed. So if even the universe had a beginning, then something must have caused it. So what caused the universe? It must have been something that is outside the physical universe. At that point what's left? Some higher power? Ya, say, God. Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Side note: Who caused God? If it was some higher power, then that would be God. But at some point you have to reach an uncaused cause. An eternal being. That is exactly how God describes himself in the Bible.) 2. Consider t...

Gleaners

Talking to Bill the other day about being middle class and able to afford nicer things, vs. being a cheapskate and grabbing up every deal and free thing that you can find. I came to realize that as I make a decent middle class living, I can afford to leave some things to others who aren't where I've gotten to. For example, if there's a dime on the ground in a parking lot, for most of my life, I can say I would pick it up. Now I think "Naw, I'll leave that for some kid to find". As I look for a used car, sometimes a cheap price draws me in, but then I tell myself "No, you're in a different place in life. That would make a good first car for some student. You can afford to leave that for someone else." It was in that conversation that I realized there's a Biblical concept for that: gleaning...or maybe NOT gleaning. Leviticus 19:9-10: "Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor sh...

What's all this?

This blog is just a place to store stuff about my Christian journey. It might be something that God has revealed to me through His word, or maybe it's some conclusion that I've come to. The main thing is it was important enough to me, that I took the time to write it down so I wouldn't forget it. This could just as well have been a private diary. But I thought maybe what's written here could help someone else. If so, great.
